Mexico: Mas Burritos

For the last 20 or so years, Mexican food in London has been rubbish - mainly thanks to the dismal American chain Chiquitos which served up bland Americanised versions of Mexican classics. But now, thanks to the growing popularity of 'street food' a new kind of Mexican eatery has evolved, the Burrito Bar.

My absolute favourite is Mas Burritos on St Martins Lane in Covent Garden. This tiny hole in the wall does only one thing and boy, does it do it well! The burritos here are wholesome and authentic, made with fresh ingredients and assembled in front of you.

You can choose between several types of beef and chicken fillings, which have been marinated in rich spices for 8 hours before being slow cooked for 12 hours to mouth watering perfection, topped with rice, beans, salad and your choice of Mexican hot sauces. Then perch yourself in a corner and munch away on your burrito as London passes you by.

Very friendly and helpful staff make this place a lunch time hot-spot for local office workers but even if the queue has reached the door it's more than worth the wait. Oh, and don't forget to get your loyalty card stamped, if you buy eight meals the ninth one is free.
